OUR HISTORY

Risboro' Lacemakers was founded in 1992 by a keen group of lacemakers, who, whilst attending a local authority lace class, identified a desire for a sociable self help group.  The founder members thought that 4 or 5 people might attend!  The first meeting had 25 attendees but this number continued to grow until the cap set due to room space limitations was reached and a waiting list introduced.  In 1994, the number of membership places available was increased to 50.

In those early days, a special feature was arranged for each meeting, eg. a supplier, speaker, display of other craft or a demonstration.  The lace book library was introduced in the first year, started by the donation of a book by a member. Raffles were also introduced in order to boost group funds.

Some of our founder members are still keen lacemakers and are now honorary members of the group.
